Mainers assist Minnesota flood victims

ROCHESTER, Minn. — An AmeriCorps teams from Maine and New Hampshire is in southeast Minnesota helping residents of three flood-ravaged counties recover from storms and flooding last August.

The Maine/New Hampshire team, along with teams from Northern California and St. Louis, Mo., will help match donated materials and labor with the residents most in need of home repairs and winterization.

“This is a good opportunity to help people and bring back some ideas and programs for my home area of New Gloucester,” said AmeriCorps member James Murray. Amy Herrick from Gray added, “I’m excited about learning new skills in AmeriCorps and helping people here with their long-term recovery.”

AmeriCorps members will work with the southeast Minnesota Regional Recovery group and four recovery committees serving seven counties, as well as numerous voluntary agencies, faith groups, local and state government. Their mission will end Nov 27, 2007.
