AUGUSTA — Three people suffered only minor injuries Friday when their car was destroyed by two tractor-trailer trucks traveling in opposite directions on Interstate 95.
Just before 5 p.m., a tractor trailer driven by Randall Brown, 44, of Oxford was in the southbound passing lane near the Bond Brook overpass and tried to merge into the travel lane.
He apparently didn’t see a Mercury Sable in that lane, driven by Sarah Crockett, 17, of Winthrop.
There was contact between the two vehicles. The car spun out, crossed the median and went into the opposite lanes, Maine State Police Trooper Sean Kinney said.
The Mercury was then struck by another tractor trailer, driven northbound by David Marquis, 31, of Norridgewock.
Crockett and two passengers in her vehicle were taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with minor injuries, Kinney said. The passengers were Daniel Fortune, 20, of Augusta, and Amanda Ouellette, 17, of Winthrop.
“It really could have been a lot worse,” Kinney said.
