Ceremony, plaque honor Sgt. Dostie

By Morning Sentinel Staff Report November 04, 2007 12:19 PM

AUGUSTA — Family and friends of the late Sgt. Thomas J. Dostie of Somerville watched from seats in the front Sunday as Maine Army National Guard’s 133rd Engineer Battalion honored him at the Augusta Armory.

Following speeches, Dostie’s parents, Michael and Peggy Dostie, unveiled a plaque embossed with his photograph and words of dedication. More than 100 members of the 133rd, dressed in fatigues, also watched.

Dostie was 20 when a suicide bomber ignited an explosive in his dining facility in Iraq on Dec. 21, 2004. The blast killed others including Staff Sgt. Lynn R. Poulin of Freedom, who was 47.

“I’m honored to be here today,” Michael Poulin said in a short speech, followed by a standing ovation. “You were his family away from home.”
