MANCHESTER, N.H. — Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton has reopened 15 New Hampshire campaign offices but the office targeted by a man claiming to have a bomb strapped to his chest remains closed.
The Clinton campaign said today that the Rochester office will remain closed until further notice from authorities.
The offices closed Friday when a man later identified as 46-year-old Leeland Eisenberg took five people hostage in the Rochester office. Eisenberg surrendered peacefully after a five-hour standoff with police. The device strapped to his chest turned out to be road flares.
His estranged wife, Lisa Eisenberg, told Foster's Daily Democrat on Saturday her husband had a drinking problem and desperately wanted to enter a detoxification program but lacked insurance and money to pay for it.
She said her husband had been binge drinking for more than three weeks and "ran out of options."
She said he saw a Clinton campaign ad on TV where a man identified as Joe Ward said Clinton helped him get health insurance so his son could have a lifesaving bone marrow transplant.
During the standoff with police, authorities said Leeland Eisenberg asked to speak with Clinton, but they decided not to involve her in the hostage negotiations.
Leeland Eisenberg is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon on four counts of kidnapping, one count of criminal threatening and one count of fraudulent use of a bomb-like device.
