AVON - An Avon woman on her way home from work early Sunday morning may have fallen asleep behind the wheel before her car veered off Route 4 near the
Strong town line and flipped over down a steep embankment, according to a
state trooper.
Glenice Cottle, 68, was wearing her seat belt and her 2006 Subaru Outback's
airbag deployed, which Trooper Joshua Birmingham said saved her from much
more serious injury or death.
The Outback careened several hundred feet down the wooded slope before it struck a large boulder, he said.
The impact flipped the car's rear end up so the vehicle was nearly vertical
and leaning on its roof when emergency personnel arrived, Birmingham said.
Cottle had managed to disengage herself and crawl out. Assisting were the
Franklin County Sheriff's Department and the Strong Fire Department.
