Red Sox trophy to visit Maine Friday

By The Associated Press wire report December 12, 2007 04:15 PM

The Boston Red Sox are bringing their 2007 World Series trophy to Maine on Friday. But unlike in 2004, there'll be no players.

The trophy will be on display at Portland's Hadlock Field from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., followed by a news conference with Gov. John Baldacci, Portland Mayor Ed Suslovic and Sea Dogs' President and General Manager Charlie Eshbach.

Afterward, Slugger the Sea Dog will accompany the trophy to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Baldacci says it'll be a "tremendous thrill for Maine's many Red Sox fans to get an up-close look at the team's second World Series trophy in four years."
