State Police have arrested two men in connection with a series of home burglaries in central Maine, including two in which wrapped Christmas toys and presents were stolen.
Working with a number of police and sheriff’s departments, State Police detectives on Tuesday arrested Karl Kittridge, 43, of Chelsea and Troy Hallett, 39, of Hallowell and charged them with burglary.
Hallett is charged with five counts and Kittridge is charged with three. Kittridge has been released on bail and Hallett was due to make his first appearance in court today.
Detectives say they are responsible for home burglaries in Monmouth, Waldoboro, Litchfield, Chelsea and Windsor and are suspects in several others. The burglaries in Monmouth and Waldoboro involved the thefts of wrapped Christmas presents. All of the break-ins took place during the day when the occupants of the homes were away.
One of the burglaries was featured in a story last Friday in the Kennebec Journal in which the family's Christmas presents, and items from a stolen safe were recovered within 24 hours from when the burglary was reported.
