GARDINER — Police have closed a portion of Route 24 as a result of a shooting.
Few details were available, although a man had been reported standing in the roadway holding a rifle.

As a precaution, nearby River View Community School was locked down briefly.
That ban was lifted before 1 p.m, according to Superintendent Paul Knowles.

Calls to the state police were redirected to Gardiner police and the office of the Maine Attorney General.
