Logan Place, an apartment complex for chronically homeless adults in Portland, is a finalist for a 2008 Maxwell Award from the Fannie Mae Foundation, according to the project's developers.
The award recognizes efforts to create housing opportunities for homeless people. Logan Place was developed in 2005 by Avesta Housing and Preble Street, two Portland agencies that serve homeless people.
The 30-unit apartment building on Frederic Street has helped to reduce the use of Portland’s emergency shelters, as well as the cost of social and public-safety services related to the city's homeless population.
The 2008 Maxwell Awards will recognize 14 nonprofit agencies across the country at a ceremony later this month in Washington, D.C. Each finalist will receive a $10,000 award and four award winners will receive $75,000 grants.
Logan Place also received a 2006 Charles Edson Award as an outstanding special-needs housing development.
Avesta Housing and Preble Street are developing Florence House, a similar project on St. John Street, that would serve homeless women.
