Lawyer who led BNAS reuse plan resigns

By The Associated Press wire report January 03, 2008 12:33 PM

BRUNSWICK - The lawyer who led the process of creating a plan for reusing the Brunswick Naval Air Station is stepping down.

Martin Wilk tendered his resignation from the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority on Dec. 26 in a letter to Gov. John Baldacci.

Wilk served first as chairman of the Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority, which created a master reuse plan to guide the civilian redevelopment of the property. He also was named to the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority charged with implementing the plan.

Wilk, an attorney and former town councilor, says the timing was right to step down now, before the MRRA begins its work in earnest. The 3,000-acre base is due to be closed in 2011.
