Sebago school too cold for classes

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report January 03, 2008 01:21 PM

SEBAGO — Students at Sebago Elementary School were sent home early today because of a problem with the building’s heat.

It appears that the heating oil level got so low that the furnace automatically turned off, according to SAD 61 Superintendent Frank Gorham. Gorham said he was still looking into why the oil level was allowed to get so low.

Parents were asked to pick up their children because the building got cold, about 50 degrees at one end and about 63 degrees at another, Gorham said.

The children left around 11:30 a.m. Staff are still working today, with the option of using other district buildings.

The oil delivery came around 9:30 a.m. and the heat is expected to be working again in the afternoon, Gorham said.

The school has about 140 students in kindergarten through the sixth grade.
