The University of Maine has arranged for faculty and staff members to get the vaccine for mumps, after an outbreak of the virus is suspected to have sickened dozens.
Symptoms of mumps are fever, headache and swollen salivary glands under the jaw. It can result in meningitis and infertility.
Cutler Health Center is planning immunization clinics for employees covered by the University of Maine System's Anthem healthcare plan on Wednesday, Thursday and Jan. 16.
Appointments are required, and may be made by calling 581-4000. Those who call will be asked to provide an Anthem certificate number when making
their appointment. Those with further questions are encouraged to contact their personal physician.
