SKOWHEGAN — The state police tactical team surrounded a Gilblair Street home late Sunday night after a man barricaded himself inside, threatening to harm people.

Shain Sargent, 36, armed with a bow and arrow, threatened to kill himself and “ take someone with him,” according to Skowhegan Police Chief Michael Emmons.

Sargent gave himself up and was taken into custody about three hours after the initial 10:13 p.m. call. He was charged with assault, terrorizing and creating a police standoff.

Police went to the scene after a caller reported Sargent had assaulted his girlfriend. Sargent allegedly “headbutted” his girlfriend and then chased her down the street. He returned to the home they share, saying he was after his bow and arrow. When police arrived, he refused to come out, screaming threats out the window, Emmons said.
