Waterville police said late Tuesday afternoon that a report of an assault with a butcher knife on Summer Street posted on this site earlier in the day never happened.

Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey said the reported incident was a training mission. He said the reported assault and criminal threatening did not occur and there was no arrest.

Rumsey said the erroneous report was the result of miscommunication between police shifts.
