FAIRFIELD — Both Lawrence and Lewiston high schools handed out athletic and academic suspensions to boys basketball players and coaches on Monday, following the investigation into the fight that ended Friday's game between the schools after three quarters.
Neither Lawrence athletic director Bill MacManus nor Lewiston AD Jason Fuller would give specifics as to the length of suspensions.
"We'll lose some kids for Tuesday, but we're still going to play our game against Hampden," MacManus said. "We'll enforce all the discipline we have to. There will be consequences for the kids who broke the rules."
Both schools agreed not to resume the game. Lawrence led 45-35 after three quarters, and that goes in the books as the final score.
The incident began when Lewiston was issued back-to-back technical fouls at the end of the third quarter. A Lewiston player hit a Lawrence player, and players and fans from both sides spilled on to the Folsom Gym court. Fairfield police estimated as many as 50 people were involved with the incident.
