Efforts to boost exports led to strong product sales in the last quarter of 2007 for Portland-based ImmuCell Corp., but the demand wasn’t enough to generate a net profit, according to the company’s latest earnings figures.
Net income fell to $72,000, or 2 cents a share during the last three months of 2007. That compares to $155,000, or 5 cents a share, a year earlier.
Product sales during the period rose by 41 percent, however, to $1.49 million. Sales of the company’s lead product, First Defense(r), grew by 64 percent during the quarter, and 16 percent for the year.
ImmuCell is a biotechnology company that develops products for animal health and productivity in the dairy and beef industries.
