Anthony Lord pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges that his actions on Nov. 24 contributed to the alcohol-related death of a University of Maine student-athlete.
Lord, 21, faces a felony charge of furnishing liquor to a minor, resulting in death. He also was charged with three misdemeanor counts of furnishing liquor to the other three minors.
Lord was released on personal recognizance, on the conditions that he have no contact with any witnesses, and not possess or use drugs or alcohol.
Adam Baxter, 19, died in the early hours of Nov. 24 in the basement of a home on Forest Avenue in Portland.
Baxter, a native of England and soccer player at UMaine, was on break from school and was drinking with four friends. The cause of death was choking, as Baxter apparently lost consciousness and breathed in vomit.
Lord and Sean Michael Meehan, 19, were indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury last month. Meehan was arraigned last week and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He faces a felony charge of furnishing a place for minors to consume liquor, resulting in death. He also faces three misdemeanor counts of furnishing a place to consume liquor.
