A winter storm that's heading east after socking the Midwest is expected to bring more than a foot of snow to parts of Maine.
The National Weather Service says the storm will move into the state Tuesday afternoon and continue through the overnight hours. Before it ends, northern Maine and the foothills of western Maine could get 15 to 16 inches of snow.
Lesser amounts of snow is expected along the coast, where the snow is expected to mix with rain and some freezing rain.
Jim Hayes of the National Weather Service says Portland will close in on 90 inches of snowfall with this storm. Maine's largest city currently stands at 84.3 inches of snow, about 35 inches above normal for the date.
