AUGUSTA — The State Planning Office warned Mainers today that flood season is coming, and that you may want to consider buying flood insurance.
The office notes that March and April tend to be when most flooding occurs, and that typical homeowner and business insurance policies do not cover flood damage. They also said there’s a 30 day waiting period for the insurance to go into effect.
The state estimates that 75 percent of homes and businesses in flood plains in Maine are not covered by flood insurance. The average annual flood insurance premium is $729.
