RICHMOND - A special town meeting is planned Tuesday to consider town support of a boat-builder's application for a $400,000 state loan to help them build high-end yacht interiors in Richmond.
Hodgdon Yachts, an East Boothbay firm with nearly two centuries of boat-building background, wants to build yacht interiors for other boat manufacturers in the Richmond Business and Manufacturing Center, said Darryl Sterling, Richmond's director of community and economic development.
Hodgdon’s headquarters would remain in East Boothbay, with the joinery division moving to Richmond, Sterling said.
The work in Richmond would primarily be woodworking, and would initially employ about 20 workers.
Hodgdon plans to apply for a $400,000 state loan to assist in the move and expansion of the joinery part of its business in Richmond.
Sterling said the loan program requires the applicant to be a unit of government. So, in this case, the town would apply for the loan, on behalf of Hodgdon.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Marcia Buker Elementary School.
