A spokesman for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department said the cause of a Wednesday night traffic accident in Boothbay that claimed the lives of three people remains under investigation.
Major Ken Mason said the state Medical Examiner's Office will analyze blood samples from each driver to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor in the Route 27 collision that involved two vehicles.
Killed in the accident were Phillip Peters, 33, of Boothbay and Linda Farnham, 63, of Boothbay. Farnham's passenger, David Farnham, 65, of Boothbay also died in the crash.
Mason ruled out speed and weather conditions as the cause. The vehicles collided head-on.
"We suspect something but it just can't be confirmed yet," Mason said Thursday.
