Portland business to unveil wind turbine

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report March 07, 2008 10:55 AM

A Portland business will be recognized Monday as the first manufacturer in Maine to use a privately owned wind turbine to generate electricity, city officials announced today.

Paradigm Window Solutions, on Riverside Industrial Parkway, will unveil a wind turbine that's expected to generate as much as 800 kilowatt hours each month. The event will start at 2 p.m. and include various state and local dignitaries, such as Mayor Edward Suslovic.

The turbine, which will be visible from the Maine Turnpike, will save about $850 a year in electricity costs. It also will reduce the demand for electricity from traditional power plants, which release greenhouse gases.

Paradigm produces only Energy Star-rated products and recycles all of its manufacturing waste.
