AUGUSTA — Springvale educator Tom Ledue Friday filed the signatures of more than the 2,000 registered Maine voters required to place his name on the ballot of the June Democratic primary election for a U.S. Senate seat.
Melissa Packard, state director of elections, said Ledue presented 2,231 signatures verified by municipal elections officials. “We reviewed them when he came in,” she said.
Maine Congressman Tom Allen has also announced he will seek the Democratic nomination. The winner of the June Democratic primary will face Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in the fall general election.
“We found many people who want to send a loud message to Washington that the people of Maine demand bolder leadership and better vision from our policymakers,” Ledue said in a prepared announcement.
