WATERVILLE — Shoppers downtown may do a double-take when they see a “sale” sign in the former CVS store window on Main Street.
But the balloons and signs signifying a sale in the store — which has been vacant two years — are for real: the building is loaded with clothing and accessories being sold at prices up to 80 percent off original prices.
Store hours for the sale, to continue through Saturday, are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The merchandise, including candles, handbags and jewelry, comes from some local shops such as Earth Bound, The Clothing Gallery and Day’s Jewelers, as well as from Moda Bella, of Gardiner; Macey’s, of Bar Harbor; Stone Soup, of Bar Harbor, which carries children’s clothing; and The Potter’s House, of Manchester.
The sale has been held for the last four years in various locations, such as Hallowell and Gardiner, according to Earth Bound owner Jennifer Bergeron, who organized the sale.
“This space worked out beautifully,” Bergeron said Monday of the former CVS space. “We have a lot of merchandise. We’re absolutely filled. The savings are amazing and people are coming out with armfuls of merchandise.”
