Brunswick police arrested a transient late Monday night after he led them on a high-speed chase through downtown Brunswick and along the northbound lane of Route 1 in a stolen truck.
Police Commander Kevin Schofield said the chase which began on Federal Street ended on the New Meadows Road in West Bath. The truck's tires were deflated by a spiked mat and it got stuck on railroad tracks.
The driver, Christopher Perron, 44, a transient who police believe lived in the Lewiston area, faces charges of operating under the influence, operating after suspension, passing a police roadblock, eluding an officer and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Perron is scheduled to be arraigned in Portland District Court on Wednesday. No one was injured during the chase, which reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.
