WATERVILLE — Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose body was found Sunday evening behind the Morning Sentinel building on Front Street.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said a state police detective was sent to the scene, but that the investigation is not a state police matter, which it would be if a homicide had occurred.

“This is a Waterville Police Department investigation,” McCausland said. “We had a detective up there last night, just working with them.”

He said investigators are looking to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for time and cause of death.

By 2 p.m. Monday, Waterville police were not ready to release the identity of the man, said to be in his 20s, until positive identification is made and all family members are notified of the death.
