AUGUSTA - State officials say the average price of heating oil in Maine jumped 17 cents a gallon in the past week.

In its last scheduled survey of the heating season, the state energy office said Monday that the average cash price of $3.78 is $1.39 higher than at this time last year.

Actual dealer prices ranged from a low of $3.50 in central Maine to a high of $3.90 in the western part of the state.

Kerosene prices rose 17 cents to $4.17 a gallon, while propane for domestic heating remained unchanged at $3.

The Office of Energy Independence and Security noted that crude oil prices broke an inflation-adjusted record Monday, trading at nearly $112 a barrel before receding.
