BOSTON - The Coast Guard says an inspection team cited a scallop boat off Prospect Harbor for having no life raft and sent the fishing crew back to port.
Officials said the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Moray from Jonesport boarded the 43-foot Canadian Exchange about 4 miles off shore at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday and terminated the vessel's voyage less than an hour later.
The Canadian Exchange and its crew were sent back to Prospect Harbor and instructed not to get under way without proper equipment, according to the Coast Guard.
Lt. John Rice of the First District Command Center in Boston said commercial vessels greater than 36 feet and operating within 12 nautical miles of the coast are required to carry a life raft.
