PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - A University of Maine defensive lineman has been ordered to seek counseling after his arrest on allegations he carjacked a woman's Jeep.

Judge Stephen Morrison granted a request Tuesday by a prosecutor and the family of 23-year-old Bryan Grier to set personal recognizance bail and ordered him to seek mental health treatment.

Grier, of Bloomfield, Conn., was arraigned in Portsmouth District Court on a charge of felony theft and a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct and robbery.

Police said Grier was arrested Monday after a woman reported a large man ordered her to hand over the keys of her car and raced away in it. Police got reports of the same man acting erratically and found the Jeep. Grier was arrested after he was found wandering in the same area.

His brother told the judge the alleged behavior is uncharacteristic of Grier, who he said is a "good student."

Grier was ordered stay away from the alleged victim. A probable cause hearing was set for April 24.
