A Portland man was convicted Tuesday in federal court, for conspiring to distribute crack cocaine.

Agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration intercepted several telephone calls in which Al-Rikabi was arranging deliveries of crack. On two occasions, undercover agents purchased crack from Al-Rikabi.

A federal jury at U.S. District Court in Portland found Al-Rikabi guilty of one count of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base, also known as crack cocaine, and two counts of distribution of cocaine base.

Under federal law, Al-Rikabi faces a mandatory minimum prison term of five years and a maximum of 40 years.

United States Attorney Paula Silsby praised the efforts of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey.
