The University of Southern Maine Board of Visitors recommended more investment in the university and more progress toward becoming an institution of national distinction.

The recommendations by the board, which serves as the university’s advocacy group, were presented at the University of Southern Maine this afternoon by Robert Blackwood, the board’s chairman.

The board also recommended cutting the university’s dropout rate, which is well below the national average, and focusing resources on programs with the most potential for national recognition.
