Gardiner Area High School football coach Matt Brown resigned this week, four months after leading the Tigers to the Class B state championship.
“It basically comes down to family time,” Brown said. “I’ve been doing this on a one-year basis, in my mind, since I took over the job.”
The Tigers finished at 11-1 this season, capping it with a 21-14 win over Mountain Valley in the state championship game. It was the second straight season in which Gardiner won 11 games and the team’s sixth playoff appearance in a row,
Brown, who took over as head coach at Gardiner in 2000, expressed a desire to return as defensive coordinator “at Gardiner or somewhere else if that doesn’t work out.”
