SOUTH BERWICK — The Town Council accepted Town Manager Jeff Grossman’s resignation Friday evening, nearly three years before his contract would have expired.
Councilors voted 4-to-1 to accept the resignation, with Robert Gagne opposed to the measure, according to Councilor Jean Demetracopoulos.
The terms of the separation agreement were not immediately available. Part of the agreement involved Grossman releasing the town from any legal claims, according to David Lourie, Grossman’s lawyer.
Grossman was hired in September 2004 as the interim manager and became town manager the following February. His term would have run through February 2011.
Councilor David Burke said “an unfortunate chain of events over a year or more” led to Grossman’s resignation, but would not elaborate.
Grossman could not be reached for comment.
