KEARNEY, Neb. -- Despite a strong performance from Wayne native Toby Martin, the Franklin Pierce women's basketball team fell to Alaska-Anchorage, 71-65 in overtime in a Division II national quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon.
Martin, a junior guard who played her high school ball at Maranacook, made six of nine shots from the field, including all three of her 3-pointers, and scored 15 points.
Division II Player of the Year Johannah Leedham led Franklin Pierce (27-6) with 31 points and 18 rebounds. Franklin Pierce led by eight with 7 minutes, 24 seconds left in regulation before Alaska-Anchorage rallied to force overtime.
Rebecca Kielpinski led Alaska-Anchorage (30-4) with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
