Motorists urged to avoid Broadway

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report March 26, 2008 04:09 PM

SOUTH PORTLAND — A water main break on Broadway has been repaired, but the Portland Water District is asking commuters to avoid the road while it is being patched.

A water main break at 1651 Broadway prompted the closure of a section of the road for much of the day. Motorists who would have traveled on Broadway from Cash Corner to Westbrook Street were detoured.

Water service has been restored to customers and the road is open to traffic. The water district learned of the break around 1 a.m. Water was shut off to 115 customers.

Customers are advised to run the water for several minutes because the water may still have sediment and air in it.

Another break has shut down Hall Street, which is off Broadway, according to public safety dispatch.
