Residents in several North Waterboro and Limerick neighborhoods remain under a boil-water order today after the spring thaw damaged several water mains in the area.
About 300 homes in the Lake Arrowhead Community were affected by the broken water pipes in recent days, according to Mike Fitzpatrick, a member of the Lake Arrowhead Community Board of Directors. There are about 1,500 homes in the community that straddles the Waterboro and Limerick town line.
Fitzpatrick said that frost leaving the ground caused soils to shift and broke one major water main and several smaller ones. All of the broken pipes had been repaired by Wednesday, but several neighborhoods were asked to continue boiling their water.
In North Waterboro, those streets are Mayfair Way from Lumberjack to Alpine Terrace, Alpine Terrace, Sunrise Lane and Deerfield Drive from Northland to Mayfair Way.
In Limerick, those neighborhoods are Waycross Way, Beth Lane, Abbey Lane, Island Road, Ruby Lane, Katie Circle, Juliet Circle, Pond Road, Dixie Lane, Carrie Lane, Lorri Lane, Alice Drive, Grace Drive and Sherry Lane.
The Lake Arrowhead Community is the second-largest private water supplier in the state, Fitzpatrick said.
