No verdict today in Dubois case

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report March 26, 2008 04:52 PM

After three hours of deliberations, a jury concluded its work on Wednesday afternoon without returning a verdict in the case against Terrel Dubois.

The jurors will resume deliberations Thursday morning at Cumberland County Superior Court.

Assistant District Attorney Robert “Bud” Ellis and defense attorney Neale Duffett presented their closing arguments Wednesday morning.

Dubois, 23, is charged with the attempted murder of South Portland police officer Steven Connors and Portland police sergeant Robert Doherty during a gun battle on Oct. 11, 2006, in South Portland.

Dubois testified that he didn’t know the men were police officers and thought he was about to be robbed or killed when they came into the apartment where he was staying.

Ellis said Dubois knew Connors and Doherty were officers, and that he had already threatened police and was willing to kill to stay out of jail.
