AUGUSTA - Members of two of Maine's development regulatory boards would get raises under a bill working its way through the Legislature.
The bill advanced in the Senate on Thursday but still faces final votes in both houses. It would increase per-day pay for members of the Land Use Regulatory Commission and Board of Environmental Protection from $55 to $100 per day.
The boards have been involved in some high-profile and time-consuming reviews, notably wind farms and Plum Creek's Moosehead-area development.
Supporters say the boards' pay hasn't increased in 20 years and that adequate pay is needed to attract citizen volunteers. Opponents say the timing is wrong for the raises.
