Earlier settlers to Maine and also the state's Indian tribes used natural plants as medicines. At a talk Monday in Yarmouth, a professional pharmacist will discuss the historical uses of such plants and demonstrate how some were prepared.
The program by Mary Thorp is presented by the Yarmouth Historical Society. Thorp has conducted educational programs at Wolfe's Neck State Park, and currently works in the Yarmouth school system. She'll bring in a few natural products with her as she talks about their use.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Log Cabin on Main Street in Yarmouth. There is no admission fee, although donations are welcome.
