A 28-year-old Limington man out on bail for for stealing copper from a Central Maine Power building in January was arrested last week after a routine traffic stop turned up what police believe was stolen metal in his car.

John Fox was charged Wednesday with burglary in connection with the theft of metal from a metal fabrication business in Cornish, two residential burglaries in Limerick and one residential burglary in Limington, according to York County Sheriff Lt. Gary Fecteau. The Cornish business burglarized several weeks ago.

The high price of copper, commonly used in wiring, has led to a spike in thefts in recent years.

Fox was also charged with violating bail and with operating a car was a habitual offender. Fox was driving on a revoked license at the time of his arrest and has had his license suspended 39 times in the last 11 years, Fecteau said.

Fox is being held at York County Jail.
