ORONO - A former University of Maine student awaiting trial in connection with the alcohol-related death of a friend is back in jail following his arrest on charges linked to a weekend fight in Orono.

Twenty-year-old Sean Meehan of Portland pleaded not guilty in February to a charge of furnishing a place to consume liquor that led to the death of 19-year-old Adam Baxter. The former UMaine soccer teammate from England had been drinking at the home of Meehan's parents the night he died.

Meehan was arrested early Sunday after Orono police were called to quell a fight at an apartment complex.

Police said Meehan assaulted a witness who tried to break up a fight in the parking lot between him and his girlfriend. Meehan was being held in the Penobscot County Jail on charges of domestic assault, assault, consumption of alcohol by a minor and violation of condition of release.
