York domestic abuse program to stay open

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report April 07, 2008 03:41 PM

Caring Unlimited, a York County program to help victims of domestic abuse, has kept its state funding and will remain open.

Last month, a bus load of domestic abuse survivors, community members and employees of Caring Unlimited rallied for the program in Augusta when it faced potential funding cuts.

Last year, Caring Unlimited assisted about 3,600 individuals dealing with some form of domestic abuse, providing support with a 24-hour confidential hotline, an emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal and counseling services and educational opportunities aimed at ending the cycle of abuse.
