Firefighters have contained a house fire at 8 Fairlawn Ave. in South Portland.
The blaze was reported around 9 a.m., and appears to have been contained to an upstairs bedroom in the two-story home.
Rescue crews got to the scene just around 9 a.m. Two dogs escaped the fire but one cat did not escape. The building owner was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but was not transported. The cause of the fire appears to be discarded smoking materials, according to Lt. Robb Couture.
Estimated damage is approximately $10,000.
