PORTLAND – Fundraising reports in the 1st District congressional race show a widening financial gap between the six Democrats in the race.

The race's top fundraiser remains Chellie Pingree, who has collected $1.16 million, more than twice as much as any other candidate in the field. As of March 31, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Pingree also had more cash on hand than any of her competitors.

The reports show that Ethan Strimling is second in total fundraising, having raked in $500,900, while Adam Cote is second in cash on hand.

Mark Lawrence is in fourth place in fundraising, followed by Michael Brennan in fifth place, and Steve Meister in sixth.

In the Republican race, reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show a tighter fund-raising battle.

Dean Scontras raised a total of $235,475 by March 31, ahead of Charlie Summers, who brought in $182,698. But at the end of March, Summers had around $56,000 more in cash remaining than Scontras.
