AUGUSTA — Commercial farms working to develop environmentally sustainable water sources could be eligible for funds from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources.

The grant program will cover 75 percent of a project's construction costs or $80,000 per accepted project, whichever amount is less.

The department is disbursing $1.5 million for construction projects.

According to Agriculture Commissioner Seth Bradstreet, the program has funded 117 projects since the program was established in 2001.

Agriculture department officials will evaluate construction proposals. Specifications for eligible projects are available at the department’s Web site.

Proposals are due June 13.
