Truck examined for evidence in fatality

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report April 29, 2008 12:29 PM

Sanford Police say they have located a logging truck that may have been involved in a fatal collision with a bicyclist on Monday.

Maj. Gordon Littlefield of the Sanford Police Department said investigators have found a 65-foot logging truck that passed through the intersection of Route 202 and Winter and River streets at approximately the same time the accident occurred.

Littlefield said police are conducting forensic exams on the truck to see if it was the same vehicle that struck Susan Coy of Sanford on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses said Coy, 43, of Sanford, was hit by a logging truck as she rode her bicycle in the wrong lane on Route 202 on Monday afternoon, according to police. Coy, of North Avenue, was dead at the scene when police arrived.

Police said Monday the driver of the truck may never have known the accident occurred.

Littlefield said the driver of the truck is cooperating with police. He would not release the driver's name.
