Ex-teacher pleads guilty in child porn case

A former Windham High School biology teacher has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

David Tanguay, 61, pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland to one count of possessing child pornography after an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A federal investigation in 2003 identified many people who had paid for subscriptions to Web sites that contained child pornography. One of those was Tanguay, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Tanguay told agents in 2004 that he downloaded child porn from different sites but that it did not interest him.

An analysis of his computer and disks uncovered the illegal images, the release said.

Tanguay, who said he has been retired for more than a year, referred questions to his attorney, Richard Berne.

Tanguay faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, according to the release.
