Bowdoin museum director resigns

By Portland Press Herald Staff Report May 07, 2008 02:57 PM

Katy Kline, director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, announced her resignation on Wednesday. Kline will stay on the job through the beginning of the next academic year.

"I look forward to catching my breath, thinking hard about what I would like to do, and then make a decision," she said. "I am not going to rush to the next thing yet. I have always done that. This time, I am going to take my time, catch up on some reading and think hard about my next move."

Kline joined the college in 1998, after 20 years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At Bowdoin, she led the $20.8 million renovation of the Walker Art Building.

The renovation project was completed in the fall.

The college will conduct a national search for her replacement.

She is the second museum director in Maine to resign this week. On Tuesday, the Portland Museum of Art announced that Daniel E. O'Leary has taken another position at the museum.
