The Maine Army National Guard is teaming up with Dartmouth Medical School to create a traumatic brain injury screening program for returning soldiers that is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
The program, announced today, will be funded by Maine Health Access Foundation, and include developing a system of care for TBI patients in the community.
A series of educational workshops for health care providers are intended to help them identify and appropriately care for TBI injuries. The first workshops will be held June 11 at University of Maine and June 12 at Maine Medical Center.
