PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine state police say a pair of recent incidents underscores the need for motorists to use care if they have to use a cell phone while driving.

Troopers believe a young woman who was killed when her car crossed the median Interstate 295 and collided with a television news truck on April 15 was trying to retrieve her cell phone, which she'd apparently dropped while talking.

In another incident, a trooper cited a driver for speeding past his marked cruiser at 85 miles per hour. She said she didn't see the trooper because she was too busy talking.

State police encourage motorists to use hands-free technology if they have to make a call while driving or better yet pull over to complete the call.
